In the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 17, 2018, the sound of gunshots pierced the quiet of a Milwaukee neighborhood. A ShotSpotter activation alerted police to the area of 22nd and Orchard, where they discovered the body of 24-year-old Angelica Fiebrink in an alley. She had been shot multiple times, and despite the efforts of first responders, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The young mother of two was described by her aunt as a "beautiful, bright, intelligent" woman who was a wonderful mother and a great friend.
The death of Angelica left her two young daughters, Analiyah and Aliana, without a mother and her family grappling with immense grief and a multitude of unanswered questions. This tragedy was compounded by a previous loss the family had suffered less than two years prior. In August of 2016, Angelica's mother, Kristina Fiebrink, died in the Milwaukee County Jail. This history of loss cast a long shadow over the family as they gathered to mourn Angelica, remembering her as a person who was loved by many.
In the days and weeks following the shooting, Milwaukee police continued their investigation into what led to Angelica's death. A memorial of flowers and candles marked the spot where she was found, a somber reminder of the violence that had occurred. As of early May 2018, her murder was one of several recent and unsolved homicides in the area, leaving the community on edge. Authorities at the time stated they were still searching for a suspect in her case, leaving her family and loved ones waiting for justice.
