On a September evening in 2014, a young Black woman named Amina Muhammad, aged 26, was standing and talking with a friend in the street on the 2600 block of N. 50th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was around 9:00 p.m. when a car, described by witnesses as a green or black 4-door Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix from the 1990s, was seen driving northbound on the street.
The vehicle then stopped alongside Amina and her companion.
Suddenly, the driver of the car began firing numerous shots in their direction. In the chaos that erupted, Amina was struck by multiple bullets. Emergency services were called, and she was rushed to Froedtert Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of the surgical team, Amina succumbed to her injuries and died during the operation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of the young mother of two boys. Her aunt remembered her as someone who liked to joke with people and was always willing to help others. The community was left searching for answers as Milwaukee Police began their investigation into the drive-by shooting.
As of now, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests having been made and no suspects publicly identified. The Milwaukee Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information from the public that could lead to a breakthrough in the investigation and bring closure to the family of Amina Muhammad.
