In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the evening of May 5, 2019, a heated argument inside a residence on the 3100 block of North 47th Street took a tragic turn, ending the life of 46-year-old Delames Jones. During the dispute, Jones, who was a concealed carry permit holder, threatened to shoot several people he was arguing with.
As he tried to draw his semi-automatic handgun from its holster, a struggle broke out as others present attempted to disarm him.
In the chaotic moments that followed, the firearm discharged. Jones sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his abdomen and right thigh. He was pronounced dead early the next morning from his injuries.
Following an investigation into the incident, the Milwaukee Police Department determined that the shooting was accidental. Based on the evidence, they concluded that Jones had unintentionally shot himself during the struggle over his weapon. Consequently, his death was not ruled a homicide, and no arrests were made in connection with the fatal event. The case was closed without any charges being filed against the other individuals involved in the altercation.
