The argument was reportedly about her friendship with a coworker at The Cheesecake Factory. During the altercation, the coworker approached the car, leading to a confrontation between Colon and the coworker. Colon allegedly smashed one of the coworker's car windows with a tire iron before returning to his original spot. The coworker then returned, and during a second confrontation, he pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, killing Colon.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jose Aviles Hernandez, was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide-use of a dangerous weapon. Surveillance footage from Bayshore showed Hernandez fleeing the scene after the shooting. The arrest was made on January 28, 2020, two days after the incident.
