In the early morning hours of October 3, 2020, the life of Chelsey Renee Payton, a 26-year-old Black/African American woman, was tragically cut short in Beloit, Wisconsin. The incident unfolded around 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of Park and Grand avenues, where a gathering had taken place. Following a party, numerous gunshots were fired into a large crowd of people. Payton was struck by the gunfire and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
