On a cold November day in 2020, the life of 17-year-old Lorenzo Williams Jr., a Black male, was cut short by gunfire on the northwest side of Milwaukee. His death on November 30, 2020, would become the tragic starting point for a cascade of violence that would grip the city for nearly two years.
The shooting of Williams is believed to have ignited a bitter and bloody feud between loosely-affiliated groups of individuals.
This conflict, fueled by social media, spiraled into a relentless cycle of retaliation. The consequences were devastating, leading to more than 100 non-fatal shootings and at least 25 additional homicides in the Milwaukee area.
