Jolene R. Medeiros, a 38-year-old Caucasian female, had her life tragically cut short on Sunday, January 24, 2021, in Nelson, Wisconsin. Remembered for always having a smile on her face and greeting people with kindness, Jolene was a mother to two daughters, Briana and Brooklynn. She had a love for essential oils and had recently taken up gardening and canning the produce she grew.
Her affection for animals, especially her own dogs and cats, was well known.
The circumstances of her death were violent and harrowing. Authorities were alerted to the situation by a 911 call made by Jolene's husband, Jonathan P. Medeiros, 38. In the call, he stated that he had shot and killed his wife. When law enforcement arrived at their residence at South 1002 Highway 25, they found Jolene unresponsive on a bed. Paramedics who arrived at the scene noted significant trauma to her lower face and an exit wound on the back of her head. The investigation of the scene uncovered further grim details, including a hole in the wall that contained hair and blood, consistent with the trajectory of a 12-gauge slug. A 12-gauge shotgun with a shell still in the chamber was found on the floor.
Jonathan Medeiros was present at the scene and was arrested. He reiterated to the police what he had stated in the 911 call, affirming that he had shot his wife. Subsequently, Jonathan P. Medeiros was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in Buffalo County court. Following his conviction for first-degree reckless homicide, he appealed the decision, but the judgment was ultimately affirmed. He faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
