In the warm summer evening of July 5, 2021, the life of 23-year-old Keshaun Q. Davis-Williams, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Madison, Wisconsin. He was at a BP gas station on Verona Road, simply waiting in his car, when the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire. In a sudden and violent act, Davis-Williams was shot seven times.
Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later, leaving a community in mourning and a family devastated by their loss.
The investigation into the homicide quickly led authorities to identify suspects. The subsequent legal proceedings brought two men to justice for their roles in the fatal shooting. One of the individuals, Avion Little, faced charges for his involvement in the crime. In August 2023, the 26-year-old Madison man pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide as a party to a crime. For his part in the events that led to Davis-Williams' death, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The second man, Christopher Somerset, faced the more severe charge of first-degree intentional homicide. Pleading guilty to the charge, Somerset was sentenced to life in prison for his direct role in ending the young life of Keshaun Davis-Williams. The convictions, while bringing a measure of closure to the case, could not erase the profound loss felt by those who knew and loved the young man whose life was taken on that summer night.
