In the early hours of a Sunday morning, a celebration of life turned into a scene of devastating loss. Christian E. Colon-Delgado, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on February 27, 2022, outside a nightclub on Milwaukee's south side. The night was meant to be a joyous occasion, a birthday party for his mother, but it was irrevocably shattered by a senseless act of violence.
The evening soured when a man, later identified as 50-year-old Tommy Bush, began making unwanted
advances towards a woman at the party. After being asked to leave and escorted out of the establishment, Bush returned with a firearm. Outside the bar, he confronted Colon-Delgado, his brother, and his mother's boyfriend. What followed was a hail of gunfire that left Christian E. Colon-Delgado dead at the scene, having been struck multiple times. His brother was wounded in the hip, and his mother's boyfriend sustained critical injuries that would leave him in a coma for a significant period.
The tragic event was captured on surveillance video, which played a crucial role in the subsequent investigation. The footage clearly showed Bush confronting the men, racking his pistol, and opening fire before quickly leaving the scene. The evidence was damning, and it wasn't long before law enforcement identified their suspect.
Tommy Bush was later arrested and faced a litany of charges for his actions that night. A Milwaukee County jury found him guilty of first-degree intentional homicide for the death of Christian E. Colon-Delgado. He was also convicted on two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety for the injuries inflicted upon the other two men, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm and bail jumping. For his crimes, Bush was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, ensuring that the man responsible for such a profound loss would never again be free.
