Tony Bouravanh, a 26-year-old resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, tragically lost his life on May 29, 2015. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when Bouravanh and another man were sitting in a vehicle near 29th and Cherry. According to reports, Bouravanh sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while the second victim, a man in his 20s, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Both victims were transported to a hospital, where Bouravanh was pronounced dead.
An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was the gunshot wound to his head, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was connected to a drug transaction. Juan Sandoval, a 28-year-old Milwaukee man, was charged in connection with the double shooting. Sandoval faced charges of first-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a felon, among other charges. According to the criminal complaint, Sandoval was in the area to engage in a marijuana transaction that had been arranged by an acquaintance. The situation escalated when Bouravanh and his companion arrived at the scene. Sandoval claimed that he saw Bouravanh flashing large amounts of money and bragging about his ability to purchase significant quantities of marijuana.
Witnesses reported that a confrontation occurred between Bouravanh and a man wearing a fluorescent orange construction vest, who demanded that Bouravanh empty his pockets. Shortly after, gunshots were fired, resulting in Bouravanh's death and the injury of his companion. Sandoval admitted to being handed a gun by someone else in his vehicle and participating in the shooting. The investigation led to Sandoval's arrest and subsequent charges, highlighting the dangerous intersection of drug transactions and violent crime in the area.
