In the spring of 2022, a wave of violence struck the city of Milwaukee, and among the victims was Sylvester J. Toliver, a 52-year-old Black male. On the evening of May 11, 2022, tragedy befell Toliver near the intersection of 44th and Lisbon, in close proximity to Washington Park. He sustained fatal injuries from gunshots in an incident that added to a particularly violent day in the city, which saw two other fatal shootings within a short period.
Despite the efforts of those at the scene to save his life, Toliver was pronounced dead.
The Milwaukee Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, canvassing for information and seeking assistance from the public to shed light on the circumstances that led to Toliver's death. Authorities urged anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward, providing contact information for anonymous tips in the hope of generating leads that could identify the person or persons responsible for the crime.
