On a tragic morning in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, the life of 18-year-old Charlus Robinson, a Black / African American male, was discovered to have been violently cut short. It was September 1, 2022, when police, already at the home on a harrowing call, found him inside a car parked in the driveway of the residence he shared with his family near 62nd and Goodrich Lane. An autopsy would later confirm he had been shot twice in the head.
The grim discovery compounded a family's unfolding nightmare, turning a single tragedy into a devastating double homicide.
Earlier that morning, officers had first responded to the home after the mother of the victims made a frantic call. She had discovered her other son, 18-year-old Amarion Brown, unresponsive in his bed with a gunshot wound. The previous evening, Amarion had a friend named "Joe" over to the house. The mother recalled hearing a "pop" between 5 and 6 a.m. but, unsure of its origin, had gone back to sleep. When she awoke, the guest was gone. It wasn't until her daughter went to wake Amarion that the first terrible discovery was made. The search of the property following this led to the second heartbreaking find: Charlus Robinson, lifeless in the vehicle outside.
The investigation into the brothers' deaths swiftly focused on the friend, "Joe," who was identified as Joseph Tucker. Detectives utilized cell phone records, internet data from various apps, and surveillance footage to piece together the events of that morning. The data placed Tucker at the scene at the time of the homicides. Furthermore, surveillance video captured Tucker and another individual, later identified as Tamirat T. Mills, stealing the family's Jeep from the residence and abandoning it a short time later. This corresponded with another resident in the home hearing the back door open and a car revving between 4 and 5 a.m., which they had assumed was one of the brothers using the vehicle.
Joseph Tucker was arrested in February 2023 and charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. In July 2024, he was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for his role in the murders of Charlus Robinson and Amarion Brown. The second suspect, Tamirat T. Mills, was charged in January 2025 with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, his case awaiting its day in court.
