In the quiet town of Amherst, Wisconsin, a late autumn visit turned into a scene of tragedy for 92-year-old Clarence H. Banks. On November 27, 2022, the male victim was at a home on Yellow Brick Road, visiting a relative. Also present in the house was 78-year-old Miles W. Bradley, who resided there with Banks' relative.
In the early morning hours, around 12:30 AM, a heated argument erupted between Bradley and Banks' relative.
During this dispute, Bradley armed himself with a handgun and reportedly threatened to kill Banks. The commotion drew the attention of others in the house, who attempted to intervene. It also roused Banks from the basement, where he was believed to have been sleeping.
As Banks started to ascend the basement stairs to investigate the disturbance, Bradley allegedly leaned over the railing and fired a single shot, killing him. When Portage County deputies arrived at the residence, they found Banks at the bottom of the basement stairs. Bradley was taken into custody at the scene without incident and later charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He was held on a $1 million bond. The weapon was recovered from a table in the home.
