Tiffany Benoff, a 28-year-old Caucasian woman known for her optimistic spirit and bright smile, found her life cut short on November 30, 2004. A waitress at the local IHOP, she was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.
Her life, however, was not as cheerful as the "Joy" sign that hung beside the door of her mobile home.
Behind the facade of a seemingly normal life, Tiffany was entangled in a troubled relationship with her husband, William "Billy" Benoff III. The couple had recently separated, and Billy had filed for divorce just two weeks prior to the tragic incident. Friends of Tiffany were aware of the escalating tension between them, noting Billy's jealousy over Tiffany's new boyfriend. Tiffany had even confided in a friend and neighbor that her husband had been physically violent at times, and that she was afraid of him. Despite suggestions to seek a restraining order, Tiffany hesitated, perhaps holding onto a sliver of hope that things would not escalate to a deadly conclusion.
On that fateful Tuesday, Tiffany had gone to the courthouse to request more time to respond to her husband's divorce filings.
