On a summer night in Mukilteo, Washington, a gathering of friends turned into a scene of tragedy. Anna Bui, a 19-year-old female of Vietnamese-American descent, was at a house party with her peers, mostly recent graduates from Kamiak High School. She was a student at the University of Washington's Bothell campus and had her whole life ahead of her. The party, filled with the laughter and promise of youth, was shattered by the arrival of her ex-boyfriend, Allen Christopher Ivanov, also 19.
