On a summer afternoon in Seattle, Washington, on July 28, 2006, the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle became the scene of a violent and tragic event. Pamela Waechter, a 58-year-old Jewish-American woman and the director of the Federation's annual fundraising campaign, was killed during a targeted shooting. The perpetrator, Naveed Afzal Haq, a 30-year-old American of Pakistani descent, forced his way into the building, armed with two semiautomatic handguns.
