In the spring of 2025, a violent encounter in Meridian, Mississippi, led to the death of 27-year-old Marquez Green. The fatal incident unfolded on Tuesday, May 20th, at the Frank Berry Courts Housing Complex located at 917 42nd Avenue. An exchange of gunfire erupted between Green and another man, Malcom Johnson.
Both men were struck by bullets during the shootout. Emergency services transported both individuals to a local hospital for medical attention. While Johnson's injuries were not life-threatening, Green was admitted in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Marquez Green succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Following the shooting and Green's subsequent death, the Meridian Police Department moved forward with their investigation. Upon his release from the hospital on Friday, May 23, 2025, Malcom Johnson was taken into custody by law enforcement. He has since been charged with murder in connection with the death of Marquez Green. Johnson is being held on a $1 million bond at the Clarke County Jail. The investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.
