In January of 2015, a 57-year-old man named Jeffrey J. Wehl was found gravely wounded in his Everett, Washington, apartment. A neighbor discovered him on the floor of his W. Casino Road residence, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. Wehl was rushed to the hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries three days later, on January 24, 2015. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office officially ruled his death a homicide. Before he was unable to speak, Wehl was able to tell first responders that a male and a female were involved in the incident.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly zeroed in on two teenage suspects, Ali Ramadhan, age 18, and Kyelee Milner, who was 17 at the time of the incident. Prosecutors alleged that the pair had planned to rob Wehl, who was known to own and wear expensive jewelry. Milner reportedly told detectives that she had gone to Wehl's apartment for the purpose of prostitution, and that she was aware that Ramadhan was armed and intended to rob the victim. She claimed that Ramadhan told her he was going to shoot Wehl just moments before he did. After the fatal shot was fired, Ramadhan is said to have stolen jewelry from Wehl as he lay dying.
Following the shooting, a neighbor reported seeing a man, later identified as Ramadhan, running from Wehl's apartment. Witnesses also saw a man and a woman fleeing the scene. Ramadhan was later seen driving a stolen car away from the apartment complex. The vehicle was later found abandoned with Wehl's mail, stained with blood, inside. Further investigation led detectives to witnesses who claimed Ramadhan had admitted to the shooting and robbery, even showing one person bloody jewelry and a black pistol. Another witness reported that they had gone with Ramadhan to Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, where they burned some of Wehl's stolen belongings in a fire pit.
Both Ali Ramadhan and Kyelee Milner were arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Ramadhan, also known as "Ali Baghdad," initially denied shooting Wehl and tried to place the blame on Milner. However, he later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was facing a potential 20-year prison sentence. Milner was also taken into custody and held on a high bail. The case against the two teenagers painted a grim picture of a robbery that escalated into a fatal act of violence, cutting short the life of Jeffrey J. Wehl.
