In the late hours of a Friday night in Tacoma, Washington, a burst of violence shattered the quiet, leading to the tragic death of 30-year-old Ryan Wilkinson. On what began as an ordinary evening on March 18, 2016, Wilkinson, along with two other men in their 20s, found themselves at a house near South 48th Street and Yakima Avenue. It was there that gunshots erupted, leaving all three men wounded.
Shortly after midnight, within five minutes of each other, the three men arrived at a
local hospital, each suffering from gunshot wounds. While his two companions would later be released, Wilkinson's injuries proved to be fatal. He succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of his death, which was ruled a homicide.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Tacoma Police Department launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities believed the shooting was a targeted event and assured the public that there was no broader threat. However, the investigation was quickly met with challenges as witnesses proved to be uncooperative, hindering the efforts of law enforcement to piece together the events of that night and identify those responsible.
Despite their efforts, investigators were unable to establish a clear motive for the shooting. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Ryan Wilkinson. The case remains unsolved, leaving a lingering sense of unanswered questions for his family and the community.
