In a tragic event on March 30, 2017, seven-year-old Michael Landon Pittore Montiel was found dead in a Longview, Washington apartment. The young male was a first-grade student at Northlake Elementary School. Counselors were made available at the school to provide support for students and staff following the incident.
Authorities had been called to the apartment complex after receiving a report about a man who was exhibiting suicidal behavior.
As officers arrived and were outside the residence, they heard the sound of two gunshots. After securing the area, law enforcement made entry into the apartment. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Michael and his 34-year-old father, David Michael Pittore-Montiel.
The investigation into the deaths led authorities to believe it was a homicide-suicide. An autopsy was scheduled to officially determine the causes of death for both the father and son. The incident was investigated as a murder-suicide, with David Michael Pittore-Montiel as the suspect in his son's death before taking his own life. As the sole suspect died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Michael's death.
