In the late evening of March 28, 2018, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Burien, Washington apartment complex, ending the life of 19-year-old Eveona Cortez, a Hispanic female. Cortez and her 13-year-old friend, Elizabeth Juarez, were in the parking lot of the complex on Ambaum Boulevard Southwest when they were fatally shot. The King County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and found both Cortez and Juarez unresponsive on the ground.
