On the evening of April 13, 2019, in Tacoma, Washington, 42-year-old Daniel Stueart, a White male, tragically lost his life. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the sound of a single gunshot pierced the air in a large transient encampment located in the 10000 block of Steele Street South, near Charlton Lake. Witnesses in the area reported hearing the shot followed by the distinct sound of someone running away from the scene.
When Pierce County sheriff's deputies arrived at the encampment, they
discovered Daniel Stueart in a wooded area. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Stueart, who also went by the name Danny Rasher, was known to frequent the area. Though he battled with addiction, his family emphasized that he was a loved individual with a great sense of humor and a loyal friend who always had a place to stay with them.
The investigation into Daniel Stueart's death was immediately launched by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. Detectives received numerous tips from the public, but these often consisted of speculative information, such as street names and initials, which were not enough to lead to a concrete suspect.
