In the afternoon of a Tuesday in February 2020, a young life was abruptly cut short in a strip mall parking lot in Vancouver, Washington. Trevonta Billie Steven Burks, an 18-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot on February 4th. The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, stemmed from a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
