On the late evening of May 16, 2022, a tragic series of events unfolded in the Orchards area of Vancouver, Washington, culminating in the death of 27-year-old Hispanic male, Ramon Izazaga Magaña. The Clark County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that Magaña died from a gunshot wound to the chest, ruling his death a homicide.
That night, deputies from the Clark County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Golden West Mobile Manor Mobile Home Park at approximately 11:30
p.m. after receiving reports of multiple gunshots. Upon their arrival, they discovered blood in a driveway, hinting at the violence that had transpired. A short distance from the mobile home park, law enforcement found a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole. Behind the wheel was Ramon Izazaga Magaña, who was deceased from at least one gunshot wound.
The investigation quickly led authorities to a 15-year-old male named Adolfo Cruz Torres. According to court records, Magaña had apparently confronted the teenager outside of his residence about gang membership. During questioning by deputies, Cruz Torres initially denied witnessing the shooting but later made an unsolicited statement admitting his involvement. He recounted that an unknown man had stopped his car in front of his house and confronted him. Cruz Torres stated that as the man approached him, he pulled out a firearm and shot him. He then led investigators to a Glock 23 with an obliterated serial number that he had hidden under a neighbor's porch.
Adolfo Cruz Torres was arrested and appeared in Clark County Juvenile Court on suspicion of second-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and alteration of identifying marks on a firearm. However, when he was later arraigned, the only charge filed was for second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Prosecutors clarified that the murder charge had not been officially filed as the homicide investigation was still ongoing. They also indicated that another juvenile was present with Cruz Torres at the time of the incident, but his level of involvement was still being determined.
