In the late hours of August 14, 2020, a sense of unease settled over a homeless camp in the 6600 block of South Alaska Street in Tacoma, Washington. It was here that 39-year-old Terrence Wilkins of Port Orchard would tragically lose his life in a violent encounter that shattered the night's quiet.
According to witnesses, three masked individuals descended upon the encampment with the intent to rob its residents.
Two of the men actively carried out the robbery, while a third stood as a lookout. During the commission of the crime, a shot rang out, striking Terrence Wilkins in the chest. The assailants quickly fled the scene in a vehicle, disappearing into the darkness.
Law enforcement and medical personnel were summoned, but despite their efforts, Wilkins was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office later officially identified him as the victim of the fatal shooting. In the immediate aftermath, police began their investigation into the homicide, but the suspects remained at large. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the robbery and murder of Terrence Wilkins, leaving a community to grapple with the senseless loss of life.
