In the early morning hours of July 24, 2021, the city of Tacoma, Washington, was rattled by a string of violence that left two people dead, including 32-year-old Bud Eugene Morgan. A male, his life was cut short by multiple gunshot wounds in what would become a tragic day for the community.
The unfortunate discovery of Bud Eugene Morgan was made around 5 a.m. in Wright Park after passersby reported an unconscious man. When police arrived at the scene in the 400 block of South I Street, they found Morgan with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was investigated as a homicide and was the second fatal shooting in Tacoma that day. Earlier, around 1:30 a.m., 36-year-old Heather Tucker was also found shot to death near 900 N. Pearl Street.
In the weeks that followed, Tacoma police detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the two deaths. Their investigation led them to identify two suspects believed to be involved in both homicides. In August 2021, a 22-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were arrested in connection with the killings. Both suspects were booked into the Pierce County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder, bringing a measure of resolution to the investigations, though the motive for the shootings was not immediately released.
