In the early hours of a summer morning in Tacoma, Washington, the life of 36-year-old Heather Lee Mason Tucker, a White female, was tragically cut short. On July 24, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 900 block of North Pearl Street. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Heather suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that her death was a homicide caused by these injuries. At the time of her death, official records indicated she had no fixed address.
The investigation into Heather's death unfolded over the following weeks. Initially, detectives did not release details about a possible motive or the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. For a period, no suspects were publicly identified, leaving a sense of uncertainty surrounding the violent incident. The case, however, was not stagnant. Investigators were diligently working to piece together the events of that tragic night and bring those responsible to justice.
A significant breakthrough in the case came in August 2021. Tacoma police announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with Heather's murder. A 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were taken into custody and booked on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder. Their arrests were not only linked to Heather's death but also to another fatal shooting that occurred on the same day. Just hours after Heather was killed, at around 5 a.m., 32-year-old Bud Morgan was found shot to death in the 400 block of South I Street. The diligent work of detectives led them to identify the two young men as suspects in both homicides, bringing a measure of progress in two otherwise devastating and seemingly separate acts of violence.
