On the warm summer night of July 25, 2021, the life of 26-year-old Anthony Summers, a Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire in Seattle, Washington. The vibrant young man, known for his love of sports, music, and family, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time in the city's historic Pioneer Square neighborhood. In the early morning hours, as bars and nightclubs were emptying, a chaotic scene erupted.
Witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots, leading to a night of violence that would ultimately leave three people dead and five others injured across the city in a series of what police described as unrelated shootings.
Anthony was in Pioneer Square when the shooting broke out around 2:32 a.m. near Occidental Square. When police arrived, they discovered multiple shooting scenes and two men with gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another, who would later be identified as Anthony Summers, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries. Another man, 22-year-old Dante King, was also killed in the same Pioneer Square incident. Three other individuals were also injured in this specific shooting.
