On the evening of September 11, 2022, Mohamed Kediye, a 48-year-old Black male, was working as a rideshare driver in Seattle, Washington, nearing the end of his shift. A husband and father to six children, Kediye was a beloved member of his community, described by friends as a great father and a devout Muslim who contributed positively to those around him.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., he had parked his vehicle near the Amazon Headquarters at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Lenora Street in the Denny Triangle neighborhood, preparing to pick up his final passenger for the night.
In a sudden and violent turn of events, another vehicle pulled up alongside Kediye's car. An unknown assailant, or assailants, opened fire, fatally wounding him. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Kediye inside his vehicle. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The community was left in shock and mourning, with hundreds gathering for his funeral and marching to City Hall to demand justice and answers. Despite the public outcry and the profound loss for his family, the case remains unsolved. As of early 2024, no arrests had been made in connection with Mohamed Kediye's murder. The Seattle Police Department has stated that it is an active homicide investigation. Authorities have asked for the public's help in identifying a vehicle of interest seen fleeing the area: a blue 2012 to 2014 Toyota Prius C. The search for suspects continues, leaving a family and community waiting for justice.
