In the early hours of May 23, 2022, Damon Mark Allen, a 62-year-old male resident of Seattle, Washington, was tragically killed. The incident unfolded in the Skyway neighborhood when Allen discovered two individuals attempting to break into his home. Around 3 a.m., he placed a 911 call to report the intruders.
During the call, the dispatcher could hear Allen confronting the suspects.
What began as a verbal altercation quickly escalated into a violent struggle, with the sounds of multiple gunshots being audible over the phone. Allen informed the dispatcher that there were two intruders and that he had been shot. When King County deputies arrived at the scene on 80th Avenue South, they found Allen with a gunshot wound to his head. He was lying on the ground outside a stolen white Acura RDX and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Damon Allen's death led to the arrests of two suspects. The male suspect was identified as 31-year-old Kyland Houle, a convicted felon. He was charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. A 20-year-old woman, Maisey Jo Bradley, was also arrested in connection with the incident and faced charges for her alleged role as an accomplice. Surveillance footage from a neighbor's home captured images of both suspects. The video reportedly showed Houle shooting Allen multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground. Houle then appeared to take Allen's own firearm before firing a final shot at close range.
Houle, who had an extensive criminal history that included numerous felonies and misdemeanors, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening outside his apartment complex in Skyway. Bradley was also apprehended by deputies in the vicinity of the crime scene shortly after the shooting. She had scratches on her arms and legs and initially told deputies she was having car trouble. Bail was set at $4 million for Houle and $2 million for Bradley. The death of Damon Allen, a long-time Boeing employee, left his community in sorrow and raised concerns about crime and safety in the area.
