In the small community of London, Kentucky, a simmering feud born from a lawman's duty would tragically culminate in the death of a young constable. Henry Lee, a 22-year-old White male, served as a constable in Laurel County. His path fatefully crossed with that of a local family two months prior to his death when he attempted to serve a felony warrant at the home of a private watchman's father.
The situation at the residence quickly escalated.
The watchman's father and brother actively obstructed Constable Lee, creating a diversion that allowed the wanted felon to escape. In the ensuing chaos, someone from inside the house fired upon Lee, wounding him. The constable returned fire, injuring both the father and the brother. This violent encounter planted a seed of vengeance that would soon tragically blossom.
On October 3, 1910, the private watchman, driven by a desire for revenge over the shooting of his family members, confronted Constable Henry Lee. The simmering animosity erupted into a final, fatal altercation. The watchman shot and killed Constable Lee. In the immediate aftermath of the constable's murder, the watchman himself was also shot and killed, bringing a bloody end to the vengeful dispute.
