In a tragic turn of events on September 11, 2010, in a mobile home community in Jackson, Kentucky, 28-year-old Sandra Rachel Cockerham Strong, a female, lost her life. The day took a horrific turn when her stepfather, Stanley Neace, embarked on a shooting rampage. The catalyst for this devastating outburst was reportedly a dispute over the way his wife, Sandra Neace, had prepared his breakfast.
Fueled by a volatile temper that had been escalating in the months prior, Neace's anger
erupted into unimaginable violence. Armed with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, he not only took the life of his stepdaughter, Sandra, but also her boyfriend, Dennis Turner, and his own wife, Sandra Neace. The senseless violence did not end there, as he also shot and killed two neighbors, Teresa Fugate and Tammy Kilborn, who were in the vicinity. The tragic event plunged the small Breathitt County community into a state of shock and mourning.
Following the horrific killing spree, Stanley Neace turned the gun on himself, taking his own life. As the perpetrator was deceased, there were no subsequent arrests or litigations in connection with the multiple homicides. The Kentucky State Police conducted a thorough investigation to piece together the sequence of events of that tragic day. The bodies of all the victims, along with Neace's, were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort for autopsies.
