In the summer of 2014, a dispute over a modest sum of money escalated into a fatal encounter in Louisville, Kentucky. James Scott Tolle, a 49-year-old male, was shot and killed on July 14, 2014. The incident occurred at the Manor Brook Apartment complex on Fegenbush Lane, where Tolle was the landlord. The man responsible for his death was his tenant, 54-year-old Anthony Jecker.
The conflict arose from an unpaid electric bill amounting to $58.
When Jecker failed to pay the bill, Tolle disconnected his electricity. This action led to a heated argument that culminated in Jecker fatally shooting Tolle. The coroner's report later confirmed that James Scott Tolle died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Following the shooting, police reported that Jecker attempted to dispose of the firearm.
Louisville Metro Police arrested Anthony Jecker shortly after the incident. He was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. In court, Jecker claimed that he had acted in self-defense. However, the legal proceedings ultimately concluded with a plea deal. In October 2015, Anthony Jecker was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of James Scott Tolle. He also received a five-year sentence for tampering with evidence.
During the sentencing, Jecker expressed remorse, stating, 'I'm very, very sorry that this ever happened.' In a victim impact statement, Tolle's brother described the devastating impact of the crime on their family and referred to the killing as a 'senseless murder.' Jecker's sister also offered condolences to the Tolle family. As of current records, Anthony John Jecker is incarcerated at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex, with a parole eligibility date in 2034.
