In the quiet town of Cynthiana, Kentucky, a tragic event unfolded on October 6, 2014, claiming the life of 37-year-old Katherine Russell Thompson. A white female, Katherine was born in Oceanside, California, on January 7, 1977, to Dennis Russell and Mattie Jett Bolton. She was an employee of Leggett and Platt in Georgetown and a member of the Leesburg Christian Church.
The circumstances of her death were discovered when authorities responded to a house fire at her residence, located just
a few miles west of Cynthiana. Inside the home, investigators found both Katherine and her husband, 33-year-old James S. Thompson, deceased. The ensuing investigation revealed a grim sequence of events, classifying the incident as a murder-suicide.
Authorities determined that James S. Thompson was the perpetrator, having killed his wife before setting the fire and taking his own life. As a result of this conclusion, the investigation into Katherine's death was closed, with no further suspects sought or arrests made in the case. The case was also investigated as an act of arson. Katherine left behind four daughters, Kelsi Morris, Haley Evans, Madison Wells, and Autumn Wells, as well as a loving extended family.
