Kevin Hendrix, a 53-year-old male who worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Whitley County Circuit Clerk's office and was known for selling honey with his wife at the local farmer's market, was found dead in his home. The discovery was made on a Saturday, but authorities believe the violent events that led to his death, along with the deaths of his wife and daughter,
took place on the preceding Wednesday, February 11, 2015.
Police were prompted to perform a welfare check at the Hendrix residence on Forest Circle Drive after receiving a call from law enforcement in Baltimore County, Maryland. It was then that the bodies of Kevin, his wife Dr. Sarah Hendrix, and their daughter Grace were discovered. All three had been fatally shot. Investigators determined that Kevin Hendrix had been shot twice in the head. The shots were reportedly fired into pillows, likely in an attempt to muffle the sound.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on the couple's 16-year-old son, Jason Hendrix, as the primary suspect. It was reported that the teenager was angry with his parents for taking away his computer privileges. After the killings, Jason fled in his parents' vehicle, armed with several weapons and a large amount of ammunition. On the same Saturday that his family's bodies were found, Jason Hendrix was killed in a shootout with police in Baltimore County, Maryland, following a high-speed chase. After crashing the vehicle, he opened fire on officers, injuring one before he was fatally shot by return fire. The officer's ballistic vest saved him from serious injury.
