On a summer afternoon in southern Kentucky, a dispute between two drivers would end in tragedy. Jack B. Davis Jr., a 40-year-old man from Barbourville, was fatally shot on July 29, 2020, in what officials described as an apparent road rage incident in Corbin, Kentucky. He worked as a coal truck driver and was born on April 9, 1980.
The events unfolded along U.S.
25 in Laurel County, where a verbal altercation began between the occupants of a pickup truck and the SUV that Davis was driving. Both vehicles pulled off the highway, and Davis exited his SUV. A confrontation ensued, during which the driver of the pickup truck fired multiple gunshots. Davis was struck and subsequently transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, authorities launched an investigation into the shooting. Investigators interviewed multiple individuals who were present at the scene and recovered two semiautomatic pistols. There were two passengers in the SUV with Davis at the time of the incident, while the driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
As the investigation continued, it was announced that the findings would be presented to a grand jury upon completion.
