In the winter of 2018, the community of Corbin, Kentucky, was shaken by a brutal crime that claimed the lives of three individuals, including 45-year-old Aaron Byers. The tragic events unfolded on February 17, when Byers, his 33-year-old wife Tiffany Myers, who was pregnant at the time, and her 74-year-old grandmother, Mary Jackson, were all fatally shot.
The grim discovery began at the home shared by the three victims, where police found the bodies of Myers and Jackson.
A witness who was present in the house at the time of the initial shootings told authorities he heard a man, later identified as Paul Brock, discussing the purchase of pain pills with Myers before hearing a gunshot. The witness escaped through a window and alerted a neighbor.
Two days later, the investigation led police to a shallow grave on a wooded property owned by Brock, where they unearthed the body of Aaron Byers. Investigators determined that Byers had also been shot and killed on the same day as his wife and her grandmother.
The suspect, Paul Brock, who was 44 years old at the time of his arrest, was swiftly taken into custody in February 2018. He was subsequently charged with three counts of murder and one count of fetal homicide. During the trial, Brock’s defense team argued that Byers was responsible for the deaths of the two women and that Brock had killed Byers in self-defense. However, the jury convicted Brock on all counts in March 2022. To avoid a potential death sentence, Brock accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His conviction was later upheld by the Kentucky Supreme Court.
