In the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 7, 2017, the community of Corbin, Kentucky, was shaken by a violent incident that resulted in the deaths of two men. Denver Nicely, a 47-year-old male, was found deceased inside a home on Fred Nash Lane. Alongside him was 28-year-old Joshua C. Wernicke of Keavy, who had also been fatally shot. The discovery was made after Kentucky State Police were dispatched to the residence around 2:30 a.m.
following a report of a possible shooting.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to a suspect. Paul E. Parsons, a 47-year-old from Corbin, was arrested in connection with the killings. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree burglary. Following his arrest, Parsons was lodged in the Whitley County jail.
Denver William Nicely III was born on April 15, 1970, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a father to four children and had two grandchildren at the time of his death. Those who knew him described him as a very smart and caring individual who loved his family. His death was a result of gun violence, a loss that was deeply felt by his family and friends. An autopsy was planned to determine the exact cause of death for both Nicely and Wernicke as the investigation continued.
