In the spring of 2015, the life of Larry T. Bell, a 28-year-old Black male known affectionately as 'Hulk,' was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 21st, shots rang out in the parking lot of the Centerbrook Apartments in Shelbyville, Kentucky. When the sound subsided, Bell, a resident of Louisville, was found grievously wounded. He was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene provided a crucial piece of information to investigators; they reported seeing a red SUV with black running boards speeding away from the apartment complex shortly after the shooting. This vehicle became a key focus of the police investigation into what was Shelbyville's first homicide of the year. The senseless act of violence left a community in mourning and a family searching for answers.
The investigation progressed, and a few months later, in July of 2015, a break in the case was announced. A man named Tyler Garrison was indicted by a grand jury on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with Larry T. Bell's death. At the time the indictment was handed down, Garrison was already behind bars in Louisville, facing charges for unrelated crimes that included robbery, wanton endangerment of a police officer, and escape.
