In the spring of 2016, a dispute over rent tragically escalated, leading to the death of Shane Michael McCain, a 43-year-old male from Louisville, Kentucky. On May 16, 2016, McCain, who owned several rental properties, went to an address in the 2300 block of Griffiths Avenue to collect rent money from his tenant. An altercation occurred, during which McCain was shot multiple times.
He was transported to University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The man accused of the shooting was his 21-year-old tenant, Joshua Young. Following the incident, Young was arrested and charged with murder. Investigators believe the motive for the fatal shooting was a dispute over the rent payment. Young was taken into custody and held on a $250,000 cash bond.
In the days that followed, the legal process began to unfold. A grand jury indicted Young on the murder charge, and his case was moved to Jefferson Circuit Court. Young appeared in court for a pre-trial conference in late June of that year. At the time of his passing, Shane McCain was remembered as the proprietor of EZ Mart in Jeffersonville, a business previously owned by his father. He was survived by his wife of 28 years, Traci, and their three daughters.
