In the summer of 2016, a grim discovery was made in Montgomery County, Kentucky, when the body of 33-year-old Devin J. Payton of Georgetown was found by a fisherman under the Slate Creek Bridge. The investigation uncovered a second victim, 25-year-old Brandy N. Davidson of Stanton, whose body was discovered in a wooded area outside the Wolfe County cabin. As state police delved deeper into the double homicide, they identified two primary suspects: Eugene E. Wade Jr., 28, of Shelbyville, and Devante L. Hall, 24, of Dayton, Ohio. Authorities warned that both men should be considered armed and dangerous.
In connection with the case, two other individuals, Talmadge Branham, 25, of Jeffersonville, and Carla Hunt, 31, of Salt Lick, were arrested and faced charges of tampering with physical evidence. They were accused of attempting to conceal the crime by cleaning blood out of a rental car that was allegedly used to transport Payton's body from the cabin in Wolfe County to the location in Montgomery County where he was ultimately found. Reports indicated that after the shooting, Branham and Hunt drove the two main suspects to Lexington and then proceeded to Winchester to wash the vehicle before returning it to a rental agency in Mount Sterling.
