In a grim discovery that unfolded over a weekend in June 2016, the body of 25-year-old Brandy N. Davidson of Stanton, a female, was found in a wooded area in Wolfe County, Kentucky. Her death was part of a double homicide that also claimed the life of 33-year-old Devin J. Payton of Georgetown. The investigation into their deaths quickly led law enforcement to identify multiple suspects.
The tragic events began to come to light when a fisherman discovered Payton's body under the Slate
Creek Bridge in neighboring Montgomery County. This led investigators to a cabin in Wolfe County, where they found Davidson's body. It was later determined that both had been victims of gun violence. The investigation suggested that a fight at the cabin preceded the slayings.
Within days, Kentucky State Police were searching for two primary suspects, 28-year-old Eugene E. Wade Jr. and 24-year-old Devante L. Hall. Two other individuals, Talmadge Branham, 25, and Carla Hunt, 31, were soon taken into custody. They were initially charged with tampering with physical evidence, accused of attempting to wash blood out of a rental car that was used to transport Payton's body from Wolfe County to Montgomery County.
Ultimately, all four individuals—Wade, Hall, Branham, and Hunt—were arrested and faced murder charges in connection with the deaths of Davidson and Payton. The arrests brought some measure of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation into the double homicide that had shaken the community.
