In the early hours of January 15, 2017, the city of Louisville, Kentucky, recorded its first homicide of the year. Lee Edward Trowell, a 50-year-old Black male, was found shot to death in the Russell neighborhood of west Louisville. Lee Trowell, born on June 12, 1966, was a resident of Louisville at the
time of his passing. Described by those who knew him as a certified electrician who was self-employed, he was a graduate of Jefferson County Public Schools. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief through his community and family, who remembered him as a man who was liked by most.
In the wake of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department opened a homicide investigation.
