In the early morning hours of July 30, 2026, the life of 17-year-old Corey Ceeski Staples was tragically cut short on a street in Chicago, Illinois. A passerby discovered him lying in the 8300 block of South Oglesby Avenue at approximately 1:28 a.m. and dialed 911 to report a person down. When personnel from the Chicago Fire Department arrived, they found that Corey had been shot multiple times. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:00 a.m.
Investigators from the Chicago Police Department found about six shell casings on the street near where Corey was found. A screwdriver was also discovered next to a nearby vehicle.
