In the quiet community of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, a domestic argument shattered the peace and ended the life of 54-year-old Gordon 'Gordy' Browning. On a Tuesday in January 2017, what began as a familial dispute escalated into a tragic act of violence that left one man dead and two women wounded. The incident unfolded outside a residence near London, where Browning was fatally shot.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered Browning, who was pronounced dead by the Laurel
County Coroner. Two other individuals, Jessica Collier, identified as Browning's daughter and the estranged wife of the alleged shooter, and another woman, Amy Lyons, had also sustained gunshot wounds. They were both transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment. The shooting, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, was the unfortunate culmination of a domestic dispute.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an arrest was made in connection with the incident. Michael Paul Collier, the son-in-law of Gordon Browning, was taken into custody and faced a charge of murder for the death of his father-in-law, as well as assault charges for the injuries sustained by his estranged wife and the other woman. Collier subsequently pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. Another individual, Kathy Gail Middleton, was also implicated in the case and faced a charge of tampering with physical evidence.
