On a Tuesday afternoon in the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, the life of Jamah Sherman Gatlin was tragically cut short. On April 3, 2018, the 25-year-old Black male was found suffering from a gunshot wound on Boston Court. The shooting occurred around 3 p.m., and Gatlin was quickly transported to University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
As of reports from that time, no suspects had been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 2, 1992, Jamah was the youngest of several siblings. He moved to Louisville with his grandparents in the summer of 1996. Known to his family as “Mane Mane,” he was described as fearless and confident, with a big, bright smile that persisted even through personal trials. He had dreams of becoming a musical artist, a passion he pursued off and on.
Though he resided in Louisville, Gatlin always considered himself a New Yorker, a strong part of his identity. He was known to be spiritual, developing a personal relationship with God as he grew older. His death left a profound void in the hearts of his extensive family, including his parents, grandparents, siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
