In the summer of 2018, a Sunday afternoon in the Jacobs neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, turned tragic. On July 22nd, 31-year-old Terry R. Spurling Jr., a Black male, was in the parking lot of the Manslick Food Mart in the 3700 block of Manslick Road. It was there, at approximately 3:30 p.m., that the violence erupted. Spurling was shot, sustaining a critical gunshot wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene near 7th Street Road and the Watterson Expressway.
Upon arrival, officers found Spurling in grave condition. He was quickly transported to University Hospital in an effort to save his life. Despite the medical attention he received, Terry Spurling succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was the result of a gunshot wound.
In the wake of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department began an investigation into the homicide. However, details about what led to the shooting were not immediately clear to law enforcement. Authorities did not initially identify any suspects in connection with Spurling's death. The investigation was reported as ongoing, and police urged anyone with information to contact their anonymous tip line. To date, public records do not indicate that any arrests have been made in the case.
