Homer Boling, a 36-year-old male, was fatally shot on May 6, 2018, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The incident that led to his death unfolded at a residence on Brandywood Court. His stepson, who was 17 at the time, was identified as the suspect and was subsequently arrested.
The teenager told police that he had borrowed a gun from a friend with the intention of shooting Boling in the legs because he had reportedly harmed the teen's mother.
He claimed that Boling approached him aggressively, which led to him opening fire. However, investigators discovered messages on the teen's phone that indicated a plan to shoot Boling had been discussed 'well before the shooting occurred.'
Initially charged with murder-domestic violence and tampering with physical evidence, the stepson, Tanner Perruquet, was prosecuted as an adult. In October 2021, Perruquet, then 21, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree manslaughter. His attorney argued that Perruquet believed he was acting in defense of his mother. During the sentencing hearing, Perruquet expressed remorse, stating, 'When everything happened, I was irrational...I wish I could go back and change how I acted.' His mother also testified, stating that Boling had been abusive towards her. The plea agreement recommended a 10-year prison sentence.
