Peyton Nicole Hurt, a 15-year-old female from Boaz, Kentucky, was fatally shot at a gathering in Ledbetter on the evening of Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was a student with a wide range of interests including music, fashion, and painting. Known for her beautiful singing voice and contagious laughter, she was deeply devoted to her family and friends.
Peyton was also a member of Grace Fellowship Church and had a desire to help those who were heartbroken.
On the night of the incident, Kentucky State Police were called to a residence in Ledbetter around 8:29 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Peyton had sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Baptist Health in Paducah, where she was placed on life support. She was pronounced deceased on Sunday night, June 10, 2018. In accordance with her wishes, Peyton's organs were donated, and her generosity helped to improve the health of seven recipients.
Following the shooting, detectives arrested 19-year-old Tyler Jones of Ledbetter, who was identified as Peyton's ex-boyfriend. He was initially charged with first-degree assault, but the charge was amended to murder upon Peyton's death. Another individual, 20-year-old Alexis Johnson of Paducah, was also arrested and charged with hindering apprehension in connection with the case. Both suspects were lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
