In the winter of 2019, the community of Henderson, Kentucky, lost a well-known figure, Paul R. 'Cowboy' Sutton. A man of 76 years, Sutton's life came to an unexpected and tragic end on January 3rd. On that Thursday morning, at his home on Holloway Lane, Sutton was handling a pistol. It was during the process of unloading the firearm that the weapon discharged, inflicting a fatal wound to his abdomen.
Following the incident, Sutton himself managed to call 911 at approximately 10:15 a.m.
to report that he had accidentally shot himself. Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting him first to Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Due to the severity of his injury, he was subsequently transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Paul Sutton succumbed to his injury later that day.
The Kentucky State Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their findings concluded that the event was a tragic accident. Authorities determined that there was no evidence of foul play, and consequently, no arrests were made in connection with his death.
